Tips and tricks to make your carpet look new

It isn’t always noticeable as the carpet gradually become darker and dirtier but your carpet does drastically change colour over time as it wears and collects dirt and other particles.

However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t return it to its once lovely a rich colour whether that was white, cream or brown. With a thorough cleaning using the right methods and products, you can have your carpet looking as good as new once more.

  1. Remove any strays

Before you start the cleaning process it is important that any loose threads of the carpet are cut so that they don’t cause further damage during the cleaning process.

  1. Deep stains

Spray these hardened stains with a special carpet stain remover and follow the instructions on the product. Dab this area with a clean, wet cloth following the stain removal procedure to get out as much of the stain as possible.

  1. Dented carpet

Areas where furniture has been for a long time will have left a dent in the floor. In order to get rid of these you will need to place an ice cube in each of the holes and leave them to melt. Remove any excess water that hasn’t been absorbed by the carpet by dabbing lightly so as not to reinforce the dent.

Now it is about fluffing up the carpet to remove the dent completely. This is done by gently running the edge of a spoon in the opposite direction of the carpet which will, in turn, fluff it up.

  1. Vacuum

This is required to remove all of the dust and dirt that is sitting on top of the carpet prior to the shampooing. This ensures that the carpet is as clean as possible prior to shampooing so that you will get the best results.

  1. Shampoo

Shampoo the carpet with the desired product that is specific for carpets. It is important to do this in a direction that allows you to walk towards an area that is not carpet so you don’t step back over all of the shampooed area.

Do this slowly and with care to make sure that every space of carpet is done thoroughly. Once it has been left for the specified time, usually until it is dry, you can vacuum the shampoo up from the carpet.

This should leave a much cleaner carpet than you had previously and you are able to repeat the shampoo process a few times to make it cleaner. However, it is important to note that you should not do it too many times as it does damage the carpet fibres.
